The Salisbury Business Association is saddened to announce that the Salisbury Community Christmas Parade has been cancelled for the second year running

Our application to SA Health saw us remove the amusements, rides, Santa’s cave, market stalls, community BBQ’s and other entertainment to try and reduce the complex nature of this type of event and reduce movement of attendees within the ‘site’, thereby just delivering the Parade.

However, under current Covid-19 conditions, the event presents too great a risk to community safety for not only participants and spectators, but also for our staff and volunteers.

We could also get no commitment to SA Health as to when they would approve or decline our Management Plan, however, they did advise it would not be more than  3 – 4 weeks prior to the event, which is totally unacceptable from our perspective.

We are bitterly disappointed, but the Association had no other option but to cancel this community event

Our Annual Christmas Parade traditionally attracts up to 2,500 participants and more than 8,000 spectators to the Salisbury City Centre and is a wonderful start to the Christmas festivities.

As it was not a ticketed or seated event, with no dedicated entry and exit points, nor a fenced environment, it would be difficult to manage such a “transient and free moving” activity with the added risk of people standing shoulder to shoulder. “So many people spread out over a the 1.2km parade route adds to the complexity of managing an event of this sort.”

We have had waited as long as possible to make the decision and considered a range of measures to modify the event, but none of these were feasible. With planning commencing almost 12 months out, and a lot of work behind the scenes, there’s a cut off point where you have to make a call and now is that time.

To our Sponsors and Partners, our suppliers and contractors and the Parade Organising Committee we sincerely thank you for your continued support and understanding of this decision.

We look forward to working with all of you for 2022.
